Persuasive Speech Expectations

What is expected in your persuasive speech?

Time: 10-13 minutes

Purpose: to win an opportunity to be trained as an olympic athlete.

Audience: Olympic National Committee

Persuade us that you are deserving of this opportunity by

1. Showing us that you know what it takes to be mentally prepared.

Have you set goals and accomplished them? Have you overcome obstacles in your life? What are some mental techniques that contribute to success and why? What mental skills are you good at?

2. Showing us that you know what it takes to be physically prepared. What have you learned about physical training? Identify some physical skills that one needs to succeed at the world level. You may relate them to certain sports or events. What physical skills are you good at?

3. Showing us that you want a spot on the team more than anyone else. Desire, motivation, olympic ideals, and mottos—you are aware of and hold high yourself.

4. Relate an experience that shows you have been mentally tough or physically prepared.

5. Give an example of an olympian that you would identify as a role-model and why. What qualities do you admire in this olympian and how do you hope to be like him/her?

6. Why should we choose you to become an olympian?
