HEART RATE

This activity is going to demonstrate how heart rate affects hand steadiness and aiming ability.  Several sports require an individual to be able to control their heartbeat and performance in the event.

HEART BASELINE

STEP 1 – Determine you maximum and minimum heart rate using the following calculator.

Target Heart Rate Calculator

STEP 2 – Determine your actual minimum and maximum heart rate using the heart beat monitor.  Physical activity is necessary to increase your beats.

AIMING BASELINE

STEP 1 (resting heart rate) – From a height of 3-6-9 feet determine your aiming ability by dropping a ball-bearing onto a piece of paper with a small dot in the middle and carbon paper on the back.  You have only 3 seconds to aim.

STEP 2 (maximum heart rate)  - Repeat step one with a maximum heart rate.  You will need to do physical activity between trials to keep your heart rate up.

STEP 3 – Us mathematical relationships to compare your results. (scatter graph)

HAND STEADYNESS

STEP 1 (resting heart rate) – Determine your hand steadiness by pulling on a force probe trying to keep a constant force reading.

STEP 2 (maximum heart rate) – Repeat step one trying to maintain a constant force.

STEP 3 – Us mathematical relationships to compare your results. (Avg., STD, slope, ETC.)
